Building Friendships Since 1991

Summer's Edge Day at Camp Thoreau is an ACA Accredited Camp for campers ages 4 to 14. The camp features a wide range of sports, daily swim lessons and free swim, arts and crafts, hip hop dance, challenge course, outdoor living skills, and classic camp events, including a carnival day, talent show, and Olympic games.

Created By Campers

We believe building character and community is as important as learning how to swim or play tennis. The camp was founded by Ann Marie Gallo, a local award-winning physical educator. She had such a wonderful summer camp experience in her youth that she developed her own summer day camp: a camp to inspire a new generation of campers.

Character Counts!

At Summer's Edge Day at Camp Thoreau, our community values define us. We believe every child should experience belonging to a community and learning the importance of social responsibility. Through experiential learning, campers and counselors explore and demonstrate acts of trust, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, friendship, courage, and sportspersonship. Campers earn color-coordinated stretch bracelets for demonstrating character. Small acts of kindness, such as befriending someone new to the community, are a way of life at Summer's Edge.

Summer's Edge Tennis School SETS

Ann Marie's brother, Joe Gallo, founded Summer's Edge Tennis School in 1993. Joe is an accomplished athlete, coach, and athletic trainer. Presently Joe teaches tennis to campers ages 4 to 7 at Summer's Edge at Camp Thoreau.

"I want to share my camp experience and my love of sports and the outdoors, but more importantly, I am motivated to encourage kids to feel part of a community where they feel safe to challenge themselves in new ways, try a different sport or climbing element, make a new friend, offer an idea to improve something at camp…all while having fun and feeling like a part of an inclusive community. That's the Summer's Edge experience to me."
